To the Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of New South Wales in Parliament assembled:
This Petition of certain citizens of New South Wales brings to the attention of the House that:
CSG is coal seam gas extracted from underground coal beds. In the vast majority of cases, it is extracted via the process of fracking. This involves blasting a mix of water, sand and hundreds of chemicals to crack the coal seam and allow the gas to escape more quickly.
Fracking will put communities at risk. Fracking uses dangerous chemicals that can pollute the groundwater, soil and health of people in NSW.
The government of the State of Victoria is to introduce a permanent ban on fracking and on all exploration and development of unconventional offshore gas sources.
The undersigned petitioners ask the Legislative Assembly to call on the NSW Government to:
- Permanently ban coal seam gas fracking and all exploration and development of unconventional gas sources in New South Wales
