Calling all sports clubs

Local Sports Grants Tamara Smith Member for Ballina

Calling all sports groups – apply for Local Sport Grants now

Greens Member for Ballina, Tamara Smith MP, is urging local sports groups to apply for the latest round of funding under the NSW Government’s Local Sport Grant Program which closes Friday 24 August 2018

“Sport is a vital part of our community and I encourage all clubs and councils in the Ballina and Byron Shires to apply. Clubs can apply for up to $25,000 to fund individual initiatives,” said Ms Smith.

There are four categories to apply under and the maximum amounts available are:

Sport Development for new sports programs- $2,000

Community Sport Events - $5,000

Sport Access to improve participation - $5,000

Facility Development to upgrade or create new sports facilities - $20,000.

The Local Sports Grant Program is in its fourth year and will accept applications until Friday 24 August 2018.

“Already this year, the Local Sport Grant Program has given almost $50,000 funding for sports clubs in this electorate from the 2017 grants round and I anticipate this next round of funding will help hundreds more community groups,” said Ms Smith.

“Examples of groups receiving funding in the 2017 grants include $5,000 for the Byron Archery Club, $1500 for the Northern Rivers Regional Rugby League Referees Association to subsidise travel costs for junior referees to attend development camp and $5,000 for the Ballina Basketball Association to purchase sports equipment, uniforms and to subsidise travel,” said Ms Smith.
